A Look Back
Indian Shores began as Indian Rocks Beach South Shore, a small barrier-island community that incorporated in 1949. The town originally stretched along Gulf Boulevard between the Gulf of Mexico and the narrow Intracoastal waters behind the island, and it developed as both a residential and vacation community.
In 1973, residents voted to change the town’s name to Indian Shores. Today, the community still reflects that coastal history, with its narrow barrier-island setting, waterfront properties, pedestrian-friendly Gulf Boulevard, and long-standing connection to both the Gulf and the Intracoastal.
